Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) at Annunciation of the Lord Parish.

"If we want to help the child draw nearer to God, we should with patience and courage...seek to go always closer to the vital nucleus of things. This requires study and prayer. The child himself will be our teacher if we know how to observe him". Sofia Cavalleti

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

CGS
There is a deep bond between God and the child which produces in the child the desire to draw near God. The catechist's role is to prepare the environment and to make presentations that "call forth" the child's response rather than "pour in" information. They listen with the child and together ask, "God, who are you? How do you love us? The adult is a co-wonderer with the child as they together enjoy meditating on the questions generated by the Scriptures with the prepared environment as a develpmental aid.

Parent's meeting
Come and see what this ministry is about, how we work with the children and bring all your questions! We will be there to help you to find out more about it. This meeting is schedule at least once a year and is offered in two different schedules in order to help you to attend.

The Catechist.

Our team of catechists this year consist of Joe and Donna Verner, Heather Harper-McLaurin, Monica Chagoya, Jen Ward, Michele Hundertmark and Lilia Villasenor-Garcia.

All the catechists are trained to work with the children according to their developmental stage following the Montessori Principles.

All the catechists have commited at least 90 hours in their training for level one, added to that time, they had to do some readings, meditation and had to make the materials that the children will use during their sessions.

If the catechist is trained for level 2, then she had spend 180 hours of training in order to work with children ages 3 to 9 years old.

In order to become catechist for level three 360 hours of training had been given in order to be able to attend children ages 9 to 12 years old. Level 3 is so intense that it needs the double of training time than the other levels. Plus readings, meditation and making materials.

Album One training takes 11 sessions of training, each session of 8 hours at least.

At Annunciation we are blessed to have a nice group of catechists committed in this ministry for the sake of the little ones, take your chance to find out why the catechists are so engaged with this ministry.

We are always in need of more people willing to come and volunteer and share their gifts with us and the children.

Donations:

A donation per family is suggested in order to continue building the materials the children use in the Atrium. The Parish is still working on making its own set of materials that will be used by the children for many years.

About the sessions

In the CGS program the children receive presentations according to their age. There are more than 150 different presentations over the course of 9 years; the sessions are scheduled according to the Liturgical Calendar.During the year, the children come to the Atrium for 22 to 25 sessions that last 90 minutes each. A presentation lasts from 5 to 20 minutes depending on the age group. The rest of the time is for the child to continue pondering the message that has been received and also to go back to those presentations they already know. While pondering the message, the child uses special materials that allow a deeper appreciation of the Word of God.
